A thriving island community in Grand Harbour. Inspired by Caymanian villages of the past, both in architecture and in spirit, Periwinkle is more\r\nthan a residential development. It's a contemporary Caribbean community, with a sense of place.
Words by Natasha Were and Finn Jones.
Following the completion and success of Phase I of
Periwinkle, Phase II will break ground this summer, embodying the same ethos, with all residences benefitting from sustainable features, quality construction and shared amenities.
Contemporary Community
Ideally located on a wide open canal and within walking distance of the services at Grand Harbour,
Periwinkle was conceived to offer residents modern, sustainable homes, modelled on Caymanian communities of old, where a neighbourly atmosphere prevails and a wholesome, healthy lifestyle beckons.
Designed according to the principles of new urbanism, as much care and attention has been given to the outdoor spaces and shared amenities as to the homes themselves, to encourage residents to socialise together and to run, swim, or play in the fresh air.
Homes are designed in small neighbourhoods, screened by lush landscaping and connected by leafy boulevards and pedestrian paths.
Cutting Edge Sustainability
A LEED certified community,
Periwinkle is built using sustainable construction methods and designed to be exceptionally energy efficient. Thanks to the combination of solar panels, insulated walls, LED lighting and propane-powered or energy-efficient appliances, utility bills at Periwinkle average just $150 per month.
But sustainable living is about more than reducing electrical consumption: every aspect of
Periwinkle has been considered to ensure it minimises environmental impact and maximises healthy living. Thus, water saving features are built in, landscaping is drought-tolerant, construction materials and paints are non-toxic and superior filters on air-conditioning systems ensure better indoor air quality.
Quality Construction
Sustainability and durability go hand in hand, and this is a development built to last. Insulated Concrete Forms are used in the construction for insulation, strength and fire-resistance, all doors and windows are hurricane-impact resistant and interior finishes include stain- and scratch-resistant quartz countertops and a choice of high end porcelain floor tiles, solid cabinetry and paint colours.
All options and features are of a high standard with aesthetic appeal to endure the test of time.
At Home
Phase II of
Periwinkle offers a choice of two, three and four bedroom homes.
The 2,000 square foot Courtyard Townhomes, ideal for couples and young families, look out over gardens and walkways and include two bedrooms, spacious open plan living areas and generous storage. At 2,200 square feet, the Garden Homes feature three bedrooms, large enclosed patios and private backyards. With sweeping views of the canal, the Waterfront Homes boast four bedrooms with tray ceilings, and open-concept living, all designed to the highest specifications.
Out and About
Because
Periwinkle aims to offer the very best of island living, the community features an abundance of green spaces and shared amenities to tempt residents out of their homes and into the outdoors.
Situated on the canal front, the Clubhouse is the main gathering space, where residents can socialise or entertain in the outdoor kitchen. A large pool and a kids’ play area are adjacent to this, while a pedestrian trail circling the perimeter encourages running or simply getting around on foot. The community’s location at Grand Harbour makes getting out on the water easy too:
private dock spaces are available for boat owners, and for those who do not own vessels of their own, shared kayaks and paddle boards are all part of living at Periwinkle. All this in a secure, gated development where families can play safely and freely.
With its focus on quality, sustainability and recreation, Periwinkle is not only an ethical choice and a sound investment – it’s also an opportunity to be part of a thriving island community.
